Grandstand + SwiftOtter: B2B transformation

The background

Grandstand has been an innovative provider of brand-building merchandise for over thirty years. Their primary customer base is the restaurant and brewery industries, but their offerings extend into many other areas. SwiftOtter has purchased branded merchandise from Grandstand and can attest to its quality and service. So, we were honored when they approached us to help them out of a jam with migrating their ecommerce site. 

Grandstand had signed on with a well-known Adobe partner to migrate their website from Magento 1 to Magento 2. Unfortunately, the project was behind schedule and over budget. Being over budget was one thing, but the impact on schedule may have been more costly in terms of lost opportunities with customers and higher internal operating efficiencies.  

Grandstand’s business is built around a wide variety of merchandise options and the ability to provide customer-specific customizations; their website requirements are complicated to “say the least.” Every step of their customer journey and fulfillment process is quite complex.

The most likely reason their project was in trouble was due to the partner’s lack of understanding of these complex requirements before starting the project work.

Customer Experience

There are some complex areas of the front end on Grandstand’s website. Adobe Commerce’s Javascript/frontend framework is capable but isn’t ideal for the most demanding applications. 

SwiftOtter built a PWA (Progressive Web Application) to power the product customization experience. We chose React as the most forward-looking technology as it is well-known and recognized in the front-end industry.

Pricing

Grandstand production teams handle every product before it leaves their premises: whether it's screen printed, laser engraved, or other processes. They have machines that offer special efficiencies at specific quantities. These requirements come together for a complex pricing system. In addition, they have the normal aspects of B2B pricing.

Pricing must be rock-solid and high-performant. SwiftOtter achieved these requirements in an automatically-tested system that ensures its reliability and accuracy.

Artwork

Once the order is placed, an art coordinator must review the artwork, made print-ready by an artist, double-checked, and then signed off by the customer. In this process, some fields depend on others, email notifications are sent, art statuses are tracked, and more. 

SwiftOtter built from scratch a system that exactly meets the needs of Grandstand.

Adobe Commerce

SwiftOtter helped Grandstand utilize every possible feature in Adobe Commerce. The platform is not cheap and it’s critical to work with a service provider who knows the platform inside and out.
