How Silencer Shop Built a Premium Buying Experience for Complex Suppressor Purchases

Silencer Shop has built its name on making suppressor ownership simpler, and it puts the same care into how customers shop online. Buying a suppressor-ready rifle online can be daunting, and shoppers who weren't sure their setup would work often had to call a dealer to find out. Silencer Shop wanted customers to feel just as confident buying on its website, whether they were planning a full build or buying a used suppressor. Working with SwiftOtter, it added a 3D rifle builder to its Adobe Commerce store and a new way to shop used suppressors next to new ones.

About Silencer Shop

Silencer Shop, based in Austin, Texas, is one of the most recognized names in the suppressor industry. It sells suppressors along with the firearms and accessories that go into a suppressor-ready build. Its kiosk program, available through thousands of dealers, makes the NFA paperwork part of the purchase much easier.

Many of its customers are buying their first suppressor and want to know how the paperwork works. Others are experienced shooters who want to know whether a new suppressor will fit the rifle they already own. Either way, they want answers before spending real money on a regulated product.

The Challenge: Selling Complex Suppressor Builds Online

In person, a Silencer Shop dealer can talk through a build with the customer and catch problems before the sale. Online, every part has its own product page, and it's up to the shopper to figure out whether the parts will work together. If the suppressor doesn't match the barrel's thread pitch, the customer usually doesn't find out until after they've bought it.

Silencer Shop also planned to sell used and refurbished suppressors online. A single used model can come in several conditions, mounting types, and colors, each with its own price and stock. Shoppers would need a clear way to compare those versions and see exactly what they were buying.

Silencer Shop wanted its website to do more of the work a good dealer does.

The Solution: Custom Adobe Commerce Development

SwiftOtter built both experiences inside Silencer Shop's existing Adobe Commerce store. Products, prices, and inventory still come from Adobe Commerce, and everything uses the site's own header, footer, cart, and NFA checkout. To customers, it looks and feels like the rest of Silencer Shop's site.

A 3D Rifle Configurator in Adobe Commerce

Silencer Shop calls its configurator the Rifle Builder. Here's how a build works:

  1. Customers build one step at a time. They choose a firearm, then a suppressor, mounting adapter, muzzle device, optic, and light. The builder checks caliber, thread pitch, bore size, barrel length, and mount type, and greys out any part that won't fit.
  2. The rifle takes shape in 3D. The preview updates with every choice, using Dopple's product visualization platform. Customers can zoom in, look down the barrel, and see how each part changes the rifle's weight and length.
  3. Dealer selection happens before checkout. The builder confirms a dealer before anything goes to the cart. Each part is then added to the cart as its own item.

Selling Used and Refurbished Suppressors Online

Used suppressors give more customers an affordable way into suppressor ownership, and Silencer Shop wanted them to get the same premium treatment as new ones. New product pages now show a "Refurbished & Used" option that links to the used version of that suppressor, and category pages label used items. Each used product page shows the new price for comparison and explains every condition grade. Customers can filter by grade, mounting, and color, then see each option's price and stock in one table.

Key Adobe Commerce Features

Compatibility Rules Built From the Catalog

The Rifle Builder's fit checks use compatibility data from Silencer Shop's own catalog in Adobe Commerce. When new products are added, the builder checks them the same way.

Interactive 3D With Dopple

Dopple's 3D visualization renders firearms, suppressors, and accessories together in real time as customers build.

Managed From One Adobe Commerce Admin

The Rifle Builder pulls products, prices, and inventory straight from Adobe Commerce. Silencer Shop's team manages it in the same place as the rest of the store, with no separate tool to update.

A Condition-Based Resale Catalog

Used suppressors are set up in Adobe Commerce by condition grade, mounting type, and color, with each version carrying its own price and stock in the same admin as new products.

Live Price and Stock on Used Pages

Used product pages always show current pricing and stock, and they still load quickly. Customers won't pick a suppressor that has already sold.

One NFA Checkout for Every Order

Builder orders and used suppressors both go through Silencer Shop's existing dealer selection, tax stamp, and eForms checkout.

The Outcome: A Better Way to Buy Suppressors Online

Today, shoppers can build a rifle in 3D, compare used suppressors with new ones, and check out through the same NFA process either way. They no longer need to call a dealer to check whether a build will work, because they can see it for themselves on Silencer Shop's website.

As Silencer Shop adds new firearm models, they go into the Rifle Builder once their 3D files are ready. Used inventory comes in through the store's existing inventory system.

The Road Ahead: An Ongoing Partnership

Silencer Shop keeps improving its website, and the two teams work on it together every month. That includes new features as well as quick changes when the business needs them. When Silencer Shop wanted its dealer locator to show which paperwork each location supports, SwiftOtter built it in, and customers can now pick the right dealer the first time.

SwiftOtter's Growth Team has also studied how first-time suppressor buyers shop, and that research is helping both teams decide what to build next. Through every project, the goal has been to make one of the most complicated purchases a customer can make online feel simple.

Complex products deserve a buying experience to match.

If your customers need help choosing products that work together, we'd love to show you what that could look like on your store.

A firearm configurator is a step-by-step shopping tool that lets customers choose a firearm and compatible parts, like suppressors, mounting adapters, and optics, while a 3D preview updates with each choice. It only allows parts that fit together. When the build is done, each part goes into the cart as its own item.
