The Challenge

After years on Magento, the team wanted to refresh the customer experience, expand content, and prepare for the next stage of growth. A design partner produced wireframes and prototypes that set the direction for the interface and journey. With implementation ahead, Texas Precious Metals turned to SwiftOtter, a trusted partner from previous large projects, including a custom WebSockets integration and a fully customized checkout within Magento. 

SwiftOtter explored several implementation paths with a focus on flexibility, scalability, and performance.

• Luma offered reliability within a monolithic architecture, but it would limit long term content expansion.
• Hyvä brought a modern, lightweight theme that reduces heavy JavaScript and improves page speed. It also lowers maintenance overhead.
  
  Given TPM’s growth plans and the need for modularity, we recommended a composable approach that keeps operations in Magento and introduces a modern storefront with a headless CMS for scalable publishing.

The Solution

Texas Precious Metals adopted a composable architecture that brings together the right tool for each job. Magento remains the operational core so orders, transactions, product data, and customer accounts continue to run on a stable foundation. The storefront is powered by GraphCommerce to deliver a fast, modern experience. Contentful provides flexible publishing so the team can create and update content without tickets. This mix gives TPM the agility to keep improving the customer journey while preserving the processes that already work. 

Magento for Backend Operations

Magento continues to manage order processing, transactions, and product data. Keeping these workflows in place preserves institutional knowledge and reduces risk during ongoing enhancements. 

GraphCommerce Modern Storefront

GraphCommerce is a React and Next.js front end that communicates with Magento via GraphQL. Each page fetches only what it needs, which keeps the experience fast across devices and supports dynamic interactions without extra weight. 

Modular Content Management

Contentful is a headless CMS that decouples content from presentation. The team can now publish and refine pages without developer tickets, so the site stays fresh across pages and channels.  

Enhanced journeys and personalization

The foundation supports behavior-based recommendations, targeted promotions, and educational moments that can expand over time.

Texas Precious Metals will use the new architecture to keep expanding content and to grow the Depository’s online presence. Next steps include a limit order feature that executes when spot prices meet customer-defined thresholds, and a wholesale trading platform that enables dealer-to-dealer transactions at scale. These initiatives build on existing pricing engines and premium management systems.

The new platform is fast for customers and flexible for the team. The storefront feels responsive on every device, product details are clear, and the path to purchase is straightforward. Publishing moves faster, which supports ongoing content expansion without sacrificing design or performance. 

The architecture also creates room for growth. Texas Precious Metals can scale day-to-day operations with confidence, expand the Depository’s online presence, and introduce features that serve both retail and professional audiences. Next up, limit orders that execute at customer-defined spot prices and a wholesale trading platform for dealer-to-dealer transactions. 

It is a stable backbone with a faster experience and the ability to keep improving without reworking the core platform.
